Privacy Policy
Plain-English version: we collect what we need to show you nearby stores and prices and send the alerts you ask for — nothing more.

Lagniappe (“Lagniappe,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by Phoenix AI Consulting. Lagniappe is a free app that helps shoppers find nearby grocery stores, compare prices on everyday and fresh items, and discover local specials — so you know exactly where to go and what's worth the trip. Lagniappe does not process orders, payments, or deliveries; every experience in the app is designed to send you to a physical store, not to check out online.
This policy explains what information we collect through the Lagniappe app and merchant portal, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information
Creating an account is optional — you can browse Lagniappe as a guest without signing up. If you do create an account, we collect the email address you sign up with (and, if you use Google or Apple sign-in, the name associated with that account). This lets you save favorites, set up deal alerts, and keep your preferences across sessions.
Location
Lagniappe is built around “what's near me,” so location is central to how it works. When you allow location access, we use your device's approximate or precise location — provided only when you actively use the app or set a location manually (for example, by ZIP code) — to find nearby stores and compare prices in your area. We do not track your location in the background when the app is closed.
Your most recent location is stored as your “active location” so the app doesn't have to ask every time. If you're signed in, we also save this active location on our servers so we can match you to nearby deals for push notifications (for example, a favorited store posting a new special). If you use the app as a guest, your location stays on your device only.
Push notification tokens
If you opt in to notifications, we store a device push token so we can send you deal alerts you've asked for — favorited-store specials, watched-item price drops, and similar. You can turn notifications off anytime in your device settings or in the app.
Watches and favorites
If you save a store as a favorite or “watch” an item for price drops, we store that preference against your account so we can alert you and show it back to you across sessions.
Usage data
We collect anonymized usage events — for example, that a store detail page was viewed, or that a shopper tapped “Directions” or “Call” for a store — to understand which parts of the app are useful and to help merchants understand foot traffic. If you delete your account, this data is anonymized rather than deleted outright (see “Account deletion” below), so store-level counts stay accurate.
Crash and diagnostic data
We use Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics for Firebase to collect crash reports and basic performance data, so we can find and fix bugs. This data is not used for advertising.
Information we do not collect
- We do not run advertising or collect data for ad targeting.
- We do not sell your personal information, ever.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites — Lagniappe doesn't use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because there is no cross-app tracking to authorize.
- We do not collect payment information of any kind — Lagniappe has no cart, checkout, or in-app purchases.
- We do not track your precise location in the background; it's only used while you're actively using the app or when you set it manually.
How we use your information
We use the information above to show you nearby stores and price comparisons, power the fresh & specials discovery feed, send deal alerts you've opted into, help merchants understand foot traffic to their store, and keep the app reliable through crash reporting and performance monitoring.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers that help us run Lagniappe, under agreements that limit their use of your data to providing that service:
- Supabase— our database and authentication provider. Account, location, favorites/watches, and event data are stored on Supabase's infrastructure, protected by row-level security so a store only ever sees data relevant to its own store.
- Google (Firebase & Maps) — Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers push notifications, Firebase Crashlytics/Analytics collects crash and diagnostic data, and Google Maps powers directions and map views.
- Open Food Facts — when a merchant scans a barcode to add a product, we look up basic product information (name, brand, category) from the Open Food Facts open database using the barcode only. We may use Go-UPC, a commercial barcode database, for the same barcode-only lookups. No personal information is sent or received in these lookups.
We do not share your information with data brokers or advertisers, and we do not sell it.
Merchant portal
Store owners and staff who use the Lagniappe merchant portal (a separate web application) provide store information (name, address, hours), item and pricing data, and specials, which are shown to shoppers in the app. Merchant account information (email, role) is handled the same way as consumer account information above.
Data retention & account deletion
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Anonymized usage events tied to a deleted account are retained in de-identified form so store-level analytics remain accurate; they can no longer be associated with you.
How to delete your account
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to know what we collect and why. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app — editing your profile, removing favorites/watches, deleting your account — or by emailing tyler@phoenixconsulting.ai.
Children's privacy
Lagniappe is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and database-level access controls (row-level security) — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data appropriately for what we collect.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Lagniappe evolves. We'll update the effective date above when we do, and post material changes here.
